Nanjangud witnesses 76.84 pc, Gundlupet registers 74 per cent polling

Mysuru: Though the crucial Gundlupet ad Nanjangud by-polls took off at a dim note with meager turn out of voters in the morning, the total turn out at the end of the voting stood at 76.84 pc in Nanjangud constituency and 74 pc in Gundlupet constituency.

The voting percentage stood at 60.79 per cent in Nanjangud and 59.49 per cent in Gundlupet at 3 pm.

There are 1,91,594 voters in Nanjangudu and 236 polling booths while there are Gundlupet has 1,95,293 voters and 250 polling booths and the voter turn out in rural pockets was found to be positive when compared to urban regions.

What was surprising was that voters of Mahadevanagar in Nanjangud refused to cast votes citing lack of development in their region. But later the local leaders managed to convince them successfully and most of them, that is nearly 600 villagers came forward for voting.

Meanwhile, the BJP workers and the Congress party workers got into an altercation at Ashokpuram of Nanjangud, due to which the police had to step up security.
