Mysuru: As the tourism activity is slowly limping back to normalcy in cultural City, there has been introduction of another tourism attraction in the City Sunday January 2 onwards. The Police band set of the Mysuru City Police would now play band set every day at Ambavilasa Palace, which was inaugurated by District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar.
Mysuru Palace Management Board has appointed police band to play every day from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. On the first day police band set played Kannada songs that include Kala rasikaru, Sri Maha ganapathy, Raghuvamsha Sudha, Sharanabhava, Raga Ragini Devi and other songs. They also played Jai Ho from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
On Sunday, Minister Somashekar, MUDA President H. V. Rajeev, MLA L. Nagendra, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Gautam Bagadi, Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta, and others witnessed the band set play.
Mysuru Police band set has a history of 103 years. Followed by encouragement of erstwhile King of Mysuru the English band music was gifted by Britishers. The English band is a mix of Carnatic classical music, which is a contribution of Mysuru Kings to the State. Mysuru Police band was handed over to the Police Department in the year 1951. Then on Police Department has been running police band set with experienced artistes’ troupe.
The band set is world famous now. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi admired the band set when he was Chief minister of Gujarat. Now the police band set is also famous in Gujarat. MLA S. A. Ramadas said the police band has attracted the chiefs of SAARC nations too.
