Mysuru: National Lok Adalat reunites 18 couples on June 25

Mysuru: As many as 18 couples reunited in the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday June 25 at the Jayanagar Court here.

At the Adalat, in the presence of lawyers, compromisers, and judges, 18 couples who applied for divorce agreed to settle their disputes and live together. The courtroom witnessed a reunion. The judges and lawyers greeted them and wished them to forget the bitter memories, live harmoniously with promise of tomorrow.

Presiding Officer of the District Legal Services Authority, Principal District and Sessions Judge M. L. Raghunath distributed sweets to the couples. Under the direction of the State Legal Services Authority, cases pending in the courts and pre-trial cases have been settled  through compromise, he said and added that the highest number of cases have been settled in the District in this year’s 2nd Lok Adalat.

A total of 1,50,633 cases (59,059 civil and 91,574 criminal) were prosecuted in the City and Taluks. Of these, 52,695 cases are likely to be settled. In particular, he explained that traffic violation cases are settled.

A special case has been settled between a father and daughter. The father in Delhi was contacted via video conference and reconciled. The father had not taken the responsibility of the daughter after her mother died. He left her at grandmother’s house and left for Delhi. The daughter came to the court seeking alimony from her father. He said the case was settled through compromise.

He said of the 39 cases involving the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL), 27 cases worth Rs. 1 Crore have been settled. Of the 198 law suits related to Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), 38 cases are settled involving a worth of Rs. 12.50 Crore.
