Mysuru: Today, we are all celebrating the 74th Republic Day with great enthusiasm. “For the first time as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President, I am celebrating this day by hoisting National Flag on this historic land,” said KPCC President D. K. Shivakumar.

He was speaking at the Republic Day function in the Congress Office premises. He said, “Today is the auspicious day when India got its Constitution. It was a day when the Congress gave this holy book and espoused that there is strength, equality and equal share for all. It is the day when the democratic system came into existence in this country. The Constitution was drafted by Babasaheb Ambedkar under the chairmanship of Nehru. If we do not remember his vision and contribution, it will be a dereliction of duty. Therefore, all of us should remember him and congratulate him. We are protecting every citizen by giving them fundamental right. It is the duty of Congressmen and every Indian to protect all languages, religions, cultures as well as the Constitution. It is the festival of the country and has its own significance. The Constitution of India gave strength to all on the principle of secularism. Having lived on this principle for so long, India has grown into a developing nation today,” he added.

“The philosophy of the Constitution is the ideology of the Congress. The strength of the Congress is the strength of the country. The history of the Congress is the history of the country. This country was built through the Constitutional amendments and policies brought in by the Congress. Now some people are trying to divide the society by sowing hatred over caste, religion, language and other issues. We have to make our future generations aware of this. A big conspiracy is being hatched to change the Constitution which is protecting us. But we have maintained it through the solidity of all of us, through Ambedkar’s arguments, the solid foundation laid by Gandhi, Nehru and Sardar Patel. There is an attempt to impose one language on the local languages in all states. We are not giving it any chance. Look at our note, it contains various regional languages, of which Kannada is one of them,” he observed.
“We should not forget the Constitution, the National Flag and the fundamental right of the country. Our leader Rahul Gandhi has drawn the attention of the world by taking out a padayatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, saying that the unity, brotherhood and integrity of the country has been compromised. On your behalf as State Congress President, I congratulate Rahul Gandhi on this occasion,” he said.
“In the federal structure of the country, we have to take everyone along. During the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, he gave messages of brotherhood, communal harmony, fight against price rise, unemployment and economic inequality. Unity, integrity and peace should be restored by organising programmes in the coming days to take these messages to every nook and corner of the State. Many countries of the world are inspired by our ideology and Constitution. Thus our Constitution is the greatest Constitution in the world. It is the responsibility of all of us and all of you to keep away the communal forces who are conspiring against it,” he stressed.
