Mysuru: Farmers protest, warn of election boycott

Mysuru: In Nanjanagudu, the farmers’ protest continued again, with the annadatas warning of a boycott of the election.

Farmers in Nanjanagudu are struggling to get seeds from the agriculture department even though the monsoon rains have come and they have started farming activities.

The annadatas gheraoed the office of the agriculture department and raised slogans of defiance against the government and the officials.

People’s representatives and officials who are busy with election work without bothering about farmers.

Hundreds of farmers from different parts of the taluk reprimanded the assistant officers present in the office for giving them seeds.

The farmers were adamant that they would not move from here till the concerned higher authorities came and distributed the seeds.

Speaking on the occasion, Satish Rao, President of the taluk unit of Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, said that the previous BJP Government had failed to provide seeds and was playing with the lives of the farmers.”If this continues, we will teach a lesson to the BJP in the elections,” he said, adding that if possible, 75 per cent of the farmers will boycott the polls.
