Mysuru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar on Tuesday July 19 praised Mysuru journalists saying that they are a vibrant lot.

Speaking to mediapersons here he said that “Many of the Mysuru-based vernacular dailies are doing a commendable job. He said I have been observing Mysuru media for four decades and it is quite vibrant. Mysuru journalists are famous nationally. Vernacular dailies have been doing a wonderful job over the years and I would like them to continue their good job.”

The Congress leader said, “I am here as KPCC President. We are all interested in the development of this region. Karnataka should be developed as dreamt by famous novelist Kuvempu, saint-poet Kanakadasa and social reformers Basavanna and Shishunala Sharifa.”

Training his guns on the BJP, Shivakumar said, “Ever since they have come to power, their main job has been to rake up communally-sensitive issues to disturb peace in the society.” He said, “When our party lost in the Assembly by-elections, I submitted my resignation on moral grounds. But our party President Sonia Gandhi intervened and made me KPCC President.”

Shivakumar said, “The State BJP Government’ is the most corrupt one in the country. One of the ministers resigned following charges of corruption against him. A BJP volunteer committed suicide and in the death note, accused Eshwarappa of harassing him. When we try to point a finger at them, we are threatened with raids.”

He said, “There is a Congress wave in the State. When Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister, he fulfilled 164 promises he had made. BJP, on its part, has failed to meet people’s expectations. The voters now know that Congress can give better administration.”

To another question, Shivakumar said, “If Siddaramaiah wants to become the Chief Minister again, it is his personal opinion. In the end, it is the party High Command which will take the final call. Our leader Rahul Gandhi and I will be taking part in Siddaramaiah’s 75th birthday celebrations. I don’t want to politicise somebody’s birthday. A political survey has said our party will come to power after the next Assembly elections. I promise to give you good administration.”
