Mysuru: The Department of Health and Family Welfare here is on a general alert following detection of a suspected case of Monkeypox. This is the first suspected case reported in the District.
The District’s young patient, who is suspected to have developed symptoms of Monkeypox, has been placed in isolation, and his family and other close contacts are being kept under observation. The department reports that none of the patient’s family members had symptoms of disease though they are kept under surveillance in accordance with WHO guidelines.
The samples of the girl were sent to the laboratory in Bengaluru. The first case of monkeypox was found in the neighbourhood of Kerala’s Kollam four months ago.
According to sources in the health department, the girl hails from K.R. Nagar. She has developed swollen lymph nodes and even after four days of treatment, she has not been cured.
A private medical practitioner in the City informed the authorities after suspecting that the symptoms might be those of monkeypox. The case was referred to the Department based on suspicion. Currently, the Department too suspects it to be a case of Monkeypox. The samples have been collected for a lab analysis and the Department is waiting for the report for confirmation or negation.
