Mysuru: The Mysore zoo which has remained shut since January 4 is all set to be reopened for public in a day or two after the National Institute of High Security and Animal Deceases (NIHSAD) has certified the zoo to be free from bird flu virus.
On Monday NIHSAD released results on Mysore-zoo regarding the avian influenza in the zoo due to the death of birds citing H5N8. The report of negative avian influenza in Mysore Zoo comes as a big relief to the zoo authorities and tourism in the city.

Kamala Karikalan, Executive Director of Mysore Zoo said, “We have received the report from NIHSAD which has given negative of avian influenza in zoo. The report copy will be again sent by Director of Animal Husbandry to the secretary of Forest Department of the State Government before February 2. And we are looking forward to a green signal from the secretary to reopen. Once we get clearance from them we will open zoo for public”.

The Mysore Zoo was closed for the first time in its history of 124 years citing Bird Flu which caused the death of six free-ranging and migratory birds in the zoo. The Mysore Zoo has about 6500 average visitors everyday and is considered as one of the major tourists destination in the city.
