Mysuru: BJP’s Varuna Assembly constituency candidate V. Somanna is a crore owner.
At the time of filing his nomination papers, he gave his income details in an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission. He has immovable assets worth Rs 10.21 crore and movable assets worth Rs 3.61 crore and bank liabilities of Rs 2.9 crore. Somanna’s annual income for 2022 is Rs 42.28 lakh. His wife Shailaja has an annual income of Rs 54.8 lakh, with immovable assets worth Rs 21.4 crore and movable assets worth Rs 13.01 crore. Somanna has Rs 4.01 lakh cash. There are two Toyota cars worth Rs 32.48 lakh. Shailaja has Rs 9.99 lakh cash and an Innova car worth Rs 11.85 lakh.
He has gold ornaments worth Rs 10.35 lakh, while his wife Shailaja has Rs 1.01 crore gold ornaments. Somanna’s claims and other assets are valued at Rs 3.61 crore, while his wife has Rs 13.01 crore. There is a 10-acre 35 gunta coffee plantation in Basapura in Chikkamagaluru district. His wife owns 16 acres and 6 guntas of agricultural land worth Rs 18 crore at Tavarakere in Bengaluru South taluk.
He owns residential buildings worth Rs 7.21 crore in Vijayanagar and MRCR layouts in Bengaluru, while his wife owns residential buildings worth Rs 3.4 crore in Kengeri and Kannahalli. He also has a bank loan of Rs 4.53 crore.
Somanna’s immovable assets were Rs 4.6 crore while his movable assets were Rs 4.28 crore when he contested from Govindarajanagar constituency in the 2018 elections. In the last five years, immovable assets have gone up to Rs 10.21 crore, while movable assets have come down to Rs 3.61 crore.
