Mysuru: The University of Mysore (UoM) emerged victorious along with three other varsities in the South Zone Inter University men’s kho-kho tournament which is being held at Mangaluru University and has qualified for the All India Inter University Kho-Kho Competition.

In the quarterfinals, University of Mysore registered a narrow 12-8 win over Bharathiyar University. For UoM, Sudarshan displayed a good defence for 3 minutes in the first half and continued do well in second half by defending for nearly 2.5 min. The other teams who have qualified for All India Inter University Competition are Kuvempu University, Mangaluru University and Calicut University. All the four teams will be playing for top four positions. B D Kantharaju is the coach and Mahendra Kumar is the manager of the team.
Earlier, University of Mysore had defeated Yogi Vemana University by 15-10 and registered an innings victory; Tamil Nadu Physical Education University by 11-7 and secured the innings; Acharya Nagarjuna University by 23-14 and in the pre-quarter finals it was a thrilling one point win (14-13) over Davangere University. Over 60 universities took part in the competition. All India Inter University Kho-Kho Competition will be organised by Vidyasagar University, West Bengal on March 6.
UoM women’s hockey team emerges as south zone champ:
Few days ago, the University of Mysore women’s hockey team defeated host Calicut University by 4-0 to win the south zone inter university women’s hockey tournament organised by Calicut University Physical Education Sports Ground. In the first match, University of Mysore registered a thrilling 2-1 win over Mangaluru University. Later the girls came out with a much better performance to win the remaining two matches by a good margin. In the second match, they defeated Annamalai University by 4-1 while in the deciding match, UoM girls came out with an outstanding performance to beat host Calicut University by 4-0 goals thus qualifying for the All India Inter University Hockey competition.
Vijay Krishna, Sports Authority of Karnataka who trains hockey sports hostel girls in Mysuru was the coach while Pulikeshi Y Settapanavar, senior hockey coach who promotes hockey in Mysuru by conducting All India Invitational Hockey Tournaments was the team manager.
