Mysuru: Dr M A Saleem, city police commissioner opined that If the public follow the law and order and traffic rules, the prestige of the city would increase here on Sunday.

He was speaking at the public meet organised jointly by Udayagiri Police Station and Siddarthanagar Traffic Police Station at Nobel Function Hall at Udayagiri in city.

Dr. Saleem said that there were more than 7 lakh traffic violation cases recorded during 2014-15 in city limits and more than Rs. 7 crore was collected as fines which have brought more revenue to the Department.

At present, there are 6.75 lakh vehicles in city and the traffic violation cases were more than the number of vehicles, he added.

Dr. Saleem said that there were very less incidents of chain snatching in Udayagiri Police limits but there are more incidents of disruption of peace and violation of traffic rules here. He called upon the public to strictly follow the rules and law of the land and be an example to others.

He said that youth in the age group of 18 to 30 years were dying in road accidents for not following the traffic rules which could be decreased or stopped if they follow the rules.

Replying to a question from a senior citizen, Dr. Saleem said that during the district-level officers’ meet, officers of the Excise Department complained that their revenue was coming down as the Police were imposing strict measures on those found riding or driving after consuming liquor and added that the Police Department is still going ahead by imposing fines on drunk drivers which was for their safety and to avoid fatalities.

Complaints pertaining to illegal activities in parks, menace of drunkards and other problems were brought to the notice of the authorities during the meeting.

Devaraja ACP Jai Maruthi, Udayagiri Inspector Srikanth, Siddarthanagar Traffic Inspector C.M. Ravindra and others were present at the meeting.
