Mysuru to organize year end carnival, ‘a December to remember’ to welcome 2015

Mysuru:  This December, the district administration in partnership with the Kannada and Culture department and private enterprises and parties, will  to the delight of tourists and locals organize a Mysuru carnival-2014 to welcome the new year.

Addressing media persons at a press meet held at its premises on Tuesday deputy commissioner C Shikha said, “ In order to promote Mysuru as tourism spot and also to welcome  the new year, the district administration and Kannada and culture department will be organising cultural events in the month of December under the banner ‘a December to remember’”.

The swiss band ‘Kariyak’  is expected to  participate in the Mysuru carnival, and a grand procession that includes local art forms, folk art, contemporary dance will also be held. The procession will move along DD Urs road. “As per the directions of tourism department we have been organising cultural events in Mysuru every month. The programmes will be held from 25 December to 31.”

The DC said that the carnival will involve private partnership and  the tourism department  will be conducting the programme for the month.  Events organized include, climbing Chamundi hills, and some civic awareness activities where, on December 20th,  teams will display slogans to maintain sanitation and distribute dustbins for 370 families of the Chamundi grama Panchayat.”

Music and dance will be major part of the carnival, where prominence will be given to local artistes, to promote Mysuru and its culture, musicians and other artistes. The carnival will feature,  traditional music, folk music, classical dances, contemporary dances, western dances, Orchestra teams, comedians and magicians.

The district administration has invited interested artists and teams to register their entries before 19 December with Dr K Rameshwarappa deputy director, food and civil supplies department or with S K Hussaini, deputy director, tourism department or Nirama Matapathi, assistant director, Kannada and culture department.
