Mysuru: Even as the government begins to shift Tipu’s armory in Srirangapatna to continue the track doubling work, the Mysuru Rakshnana Vedike has urged government also to protect the other historical monuments.
In a press release the Mysuru Rakshana Vedike president Prem Kumar has said, “The shift of Tipu’s armoury at the cost of Rs 13 crore, is a shocking step while many of the monuments in Srirangapatna are in a bad state.
There are many armoury houses and the premises is filled with several weed plants and armoury houses have reached ruin.
One of the old bridges of old Mysuru region, Wesley bridge isalso dilaphidated, but it has been neglected by the government. The Srirangapatna Sri Ranganathaswamy temple and Srirangapatna fort doors are also in bad condition but government has neglected to protect the historical monuments built during Tipu era.”
“Even the dove tower used by Tipu for his postal services is now a ruin. The tower near Tipu Summer palace can be protected and it can draw more tourists,” said the press release.
