Mysuru: The indefinite sit-in by the Federation of State Farmers’ Organisations and The State Sugarcane Growers’ Association in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, demanding review of FRP for sugarcane, entered the fifth day on Friday November 5.
The protesters were stopped by the police when they tried to enter the Deputy Commissioner’s office dressed as forest dwellers. At this point, there was a verbal spat. The protesters questioned “Why are you stopping us? Let us question the officials who are behaving like wild men without solving our problems,” they said.
Even though the factories are violating Government orders, the Deputy Commissioner has the power to file a criminal case against them but he is ignoring by not taking action. Sugar factories are cheating on the cost of weight, yield, harvesting and transportation and to avoid all these frauds, a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the factory and the farmers should be strictly implemented, farmers urged.
