Mysuru: To win the cleanest city award in India for the third consecutive year, it’s not only corporation and district administration officials but also Pourakarmikas who play the pivotal role in keeping city neat and clean. They are going all out in their efforts to ensure the City achieves a hatrick. Most of the Pourakarmikas who are happy with the state government’s initiative in hiking their salary and other facilities have started voluntarily working for nearly 12 hours every day to spruce up the city.

C P Rajeev, Joint Secretary, Mysuru Nagara Palike Pourakarmikara Sangha said, “For the past two months, we are going all out in our efforts to keep the city neat and clean. Public participation is also equally important in this endeavour. Public should not throw waste in a haphazard manner. Instead they should give it to Pourakarmikas who come to their door step. People, if they come across any dirt or civic related issues should make use of newly launched app swachhata-MoUD and send the pictures so that we can alert the Pourakarmikas concerned to clean the premise. The dream of all our pourakarmikas is to win the coveted title this year too. The government has given us all the required facilities and we should do justice by doing the best from our side.”

M K Mahadev, Joint Secretary of the Vedike said, “For the past nearly two months we have also started personality development programmes for Pourakarmikas. Inorder to help them behave and speak properly with the general public, we are conducting classes for Pourakarmikas. Already we have conducted such classes in few wards and in days to come they will be held in all the other wards. Apart from regular Pourakarmikas, from Thursday onwards for five days, about 150 voluntary Pourakarmikas spread in all the nine zones will be working between 6 am to 3 pm. The present Corporation Commissioner Jagadeesh is very friendly with us and immediately attends to our issues. Really, we are very grateful to him and also Deputy Commissioner D Randeep”.

In Mysuru City Corporation, including nearly 650 permanent pourakarmikas there are about 2600 voluntary pourakarmikas who work round the clock to keep the city neat and clean. Already some of officials from Delhi are in City to take stock of the cleanliness scenario.
