Mysuru: City Police Commissioner, Dr M. A. Saleem handed over a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize to Chaithra a 25- year -old MBA graduate from Mysuru who beat up a 31- year- old man who attempted to sexually harass her.

Chaithra has neither learnt martial arts nor any other form of self defense, but that didn’t stop her from taking on the man identified as Mohammed Sami, when he tried to harass her as she was on her way to catch a bus at the KSRTC city bus stand after dropping her friend off at the rural bus stand.
Chaitra responded by snatching a steel pipe a woman was using to grind betel leaves and areca nut, and hitting him hard, but he persisted and squeezed her shoulders. That is when she went berserk and beat him black and blue before dragging him on the footpath from the Townhall to the Chamaraja Circle where he was finally picked up by the police.
While talking to sources she said, “I noticed a man looking at me while I was buying masala poori but ignored him. Later he asked me what my rate was. I ignored that too and tried to cross the road. But when he held my hand, I snatched a steel pipe and hit him. I had taken only a few steps when he squeezed my shoulders. This is when I lost my cool and thrashed him black and blue. My appeals to the people around to call the police went in vain and I had to drag him all by myself on the footpath from the Town Hall to the bus stop at the Northern gate of Mysuru Palace. It was here the police took him to the station.”
