Mysuru: The City Police demolished the Mathrumandali Circle in VV Mohalla on Thursday December 30 to quell tension created by two groups over installing the statue. A group was demanding the authorities to name the circle as Dr. Ambedkar Circle while another group want the circle to be named after Poet Kuvempu and thus install his statue.

However, police demolished the circle structure to avoid any recurring tension on Thursday.

Ten people including BSP Corporator Begum Pallavi who made a bid to stop the demolition were detained by the police.

A police team led by DCP  Pradeep Gunti razed the circle with the help of an earth mover, amid police security. Both  the groups laid their claim on the circle and fixed the portraits and flex of Kuvempu and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar respectively only to rake up the issue and trigger tense moments.
