Mysuru: More than a month after the city was officially renamed Mysuru, most of the government offices here, including the city corporation, have failed to implement the government notification. They still go by the old name Mysore.

The government notification, dated October 31, had changed the name of 12 cities in the state. Corporations, departments and institutions were instructed to change their nameplates accordingly, effective November 1. The notification, however, had given an exemption to the University of Mysore.

Deputy Commissioner C Shikha informed that the nameplates of all the government institutions will be changed in a few days and a circular in this regard was issued to all departments.

The Mysore Urban Development Authority passed a resolution and changed the name. I don’t know I why the corporation authorities have failed to take the initiative to change the name, Shikha added.

The attempt to rename cities began in 2006 when the state’s first coalition government, comprising the JD(S) and BJP, proposed the change in response to the demand by various social cultural and political organizations.
