Mysuru: Mysuru is fast emerging as the second IT destination after Bengaluru. The double railway track between Mysuru and Bengaluru which is almost completed would cut the travel time between the two cities. The six lane Mysuru-Bengaluru road and air connectivity augurs well for growth of IT. There are more than 40 IT companies across the city already.

The temperature which ensures that outsiders have a cool stay in the city is attracting IT companies across the world. Recently, a German based company decided to invest Rs 100 crores in automotive, construction, food and pharma sectors. With the residential layouts mushrooming outside the city, it is evident that many IT people prefer to stay in the city because of pleasant weather and growing employment opportunities. According to V Anand, who heads a private construction company, “The villas are constructed keeping in mind the IT people. Even NRI’s who are working in foreign destinations want to settle down in Mysuru with a job as the weather and peaceful nature of the city are the prime reasons.”
Bhaskar Kalale, convenor of IT and ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services Panel), Confederation of Indian Industries, Mysuru, said, “There is no doubt that Mysuru is emerging as the favored destination for many IT and ITES companies. Many industry leaders are very positive on their expansion and choice of location given the lower cost of doing business, proximity to Bengaluru and large pool of engineering and non-engineering talent available in the city. The positive step from Software Technology Park of India to set up 50,000 sq ft IT Park in the city will definitely give major fillip to the growth of this sector”.
The total number of vehicles plying in Mysuru is nearly 8 lakh whereas in Bengaluru the vehicle population has crossed 60 lakh. Reaching office in time in Bengaluru is getting tougher, which is making companies to have a branch in Mysuru too. In Mysuru, it will not take more than half an hour to reach from any part of the city.
