Mysureans witness traditional fight ‘Vajramusthi Kalaga’

Mysuru: A packed audience at the Mysuru palace grounds witnessed a tussle between the jattis or wrestlers here on October 22.
The ‘Vajramusthi Kalaga’ that was held here on Thursday, is a unique form of wrestling brought into practice by the Wadiyars of Mysore. A ‘blood fight’ that ends when one of the wrestlers draws blood is a way to propitiate the goddess Chamundeshwari, it has been informed.

Excited crowds witnessed the fight among four jattis who came from Mysuru, Bengaluru, Chamarajanagar and Chennapattana which lasted for a minute each.

Trishika Kumari, fiancée of King Yaduveer Krishnadutta Chamaraja Wadeyar along with Queen Pramoda Devi witnessed the tussle.
