Mysore: The state’s ultimate cricket showdown – the Wadiyar Karnataka Premier League (KPL) is all set to take off from the heritage city of Mysore from August 28 onwards




Dedicated to erstwhile KSCA President and scion of the Mysore Royal Family, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, KPL 2014 is as a tribute to the Maharaja, who nurtured and promoted the sport throughout his life.
The royal city of Mysore has a rich and deep connect to the sport of cricket. The city has always demonstrated great passion for the sport and occupies a very important position not just in the Karnataka Cricket scene but on a national level also.
This year seven teams will compete for the championship title with Mysore fielding a team as well. The Mysore franchise – Mysore Warriors was awarded to Cycle Pure Agarbathies, part of the city based NR Group. The group through its brand, Cycle Pure Agarbathies has had a long-standing relationship with the game of cricket at a national and international level. This association with the third edition of the Karnataka Premier League will tie in with the grass root level initiatives of the brand to promote sporting
The bidding process which involved the combination of bids, invites and interests from former franchisees and new bidders has led to the creation of six more teams representing various catchment areas of the state.
These include: Mangalore United: Fiza Developers & Infrastructure Private Ltd, Belagavi Panthers: Subhas Enterprises and Sangeetha Consortium, Bijapur Bulls: Vivid Kreations, Hubli Tigers: Sushil Jindal, Bellary Tuskers: Mrs. Baghyalakshmi and Mr. Venkatesh Reddy, Rockstars: Kiccha Sudeep, Belagavi Panthers, Mangalore United and Bijapur Bulls are the continuing franchises in this edition.
Speaking at a press conference, P R Ashok Anand, Hon. President, KSCA said, “The Wadiyar Karnataka Premier League 2014, as it shall be known henceforth promises to be a sporting extravaganza. We are looking to make the league a whole new experience for all those involved –our franchises, cricketers, our beloved fans and all those associated with the league.”
“Gangotri Glades Cricket Ground will host the day-night matches from 28th which the tournament will travel to Bangalore and Hubli. We look forward to seeing the cricket crazy fans from Mysore at the stadium, cheering their teams for all the matches”, he added.
“We are extremely happy and proud that we are the franchise of the Mysore team. We know that cricket is a game of great prominence in our home ground and to be associated with a prestigious tournament such as this is indeed a privilege. As a brand we strongly believe in identifying and promoting sporting talent and we see KPL as a strong platform for the same”, said Arjun Ranga, Partner, NR Group.
Jayanthi Ballal designer and proprietor of Needle Works, who hosts exclusive fashion events in Mysore was also present.
KSCA will hold the player auctions in Bangalore on August 7 during which time the six teams can place their bids on the players.
