Mysore: A father–son duo following Islam faith for over 2 decades was reconverted to Hinduism by Pramod Mutalik, chief of Hindu right wing outfit Sri Ram Sene at Arya Bhavan in the city on August 22.
The Ghar-Wapsi programme was held at Arya Bhavan in Devaraja Mohalla area of Mysore. At the programme organised by Mutalik, a 22-year-old youth Syed Atriq and his father Abbas returned to Hinduism after having embraced Islam for 20 years.
Syed Abbas, a resident of Mandya district, originally a Hindu, had converted to Islam 20 years ago, it is gathered.
The father–son duo was accorded a traditional welcome with “Homa and Havana” rituals and given “Janivara” (Yajnopavita in Sanksrit), the sacred thread one continues wearing across his chest after the rites of passage.
They were assigned their original names Sheshadri and Harshal Arya.
Speaking to the media, Muthalik said many Muslims who were Hindus originally were forced to convert to Islam during the rule of certain emperors.
As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement, Ghar-Wapsi will gain momentum all over the country in the next few days, said Muthalik.
