Mysuru: The proposed Mysuru District Hospital will be coming up in the Epidemic Disease (ED) Hospital premises located on KRS road. The hospital will be constructed on 6.83 acre land at an expenditure of Rs 65 Crore. The tender was floated on January 15 and the work will commence from February. It is expected to be completed in 15 months.
Out of the three places shortlisted including Mohandas Tulsidas Hospital affiliated to the Health Department, the government narrowed in on the ED Hospital owing to its proximity to TB Hospital, ESI Hospital and the under construction Jayadeva Hospital.
The proposed 300-bedded district hospital will have multispeciality facilities. It will be a three-storied building will have all the specialists including paediatricians, orthopedicians and gynaecologists. Apart from this, the hospital will have six operation theatres, four lifts and an oxygen room. The government has taken up the project very seriously and has decided to complete the project in the proposed time. Initially, the government had planned to construct the hospital at Rs 60 Crore but now it has been revised to Rs 65 Crore.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, S R Ram Mohan from the Public Works Department said, “The tender process is almost over. The work is expected to start in February and completed in another 15 months. Already the site is getting cleared for the project. Once the district hospital comes up, it will ease the pressure at K R and Cheluvamba Hospitals”.
The district hospital was one of the long pending demands of the department of health and family welfare. K R Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital are also institutes attached to the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) under the directorate of medical education which cater to the patients not only from across the district but also neighbouring districts including Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Madikeri. Everyday, an average of 1200 patients visit K R Hospital and Cheluvamba Hospital. With just a skeleton staff working here, the doctors had a tough time in treating all the patients. Once the district hospital starts functioning, more than 50 percent of the patients will be diverted to this centre and the doctors at K R and Cheluvamba hospitals can dedicate more time to their patients.
