Mysuru: Law and order is a must for a civic society and the City Traffic Police have been taking a lot of efforts to streamline traffic movements and create awareness among people.

However the process of checking vehicles by Traffic Police on roads after dusk has received severe criticism from vehicle users especially women.

Expressing their anger, some of the lady drivers asked “It gets dark early now as it is winter and we are in a hurry to take our kids back home before dark as we find it hard to ride in the dark but the Police stop us for checking which takes too much time.”

Chandrika, a mother, complaining that the Police keep checking the same people everyday standing in the same spot asked, “When they have checked me earlier when I was going to pick up my child, why are they checking me again on my way back? It is a waste of both their time and mine as I have to stand in line holding my documents while my tired child has to wait near the scooter alone which is risky.”

Others said that checking vehicles was not wrong but it should be done at the right time without causing inconvenience to the riders, who have to hurry to pick up their children from school on time and again drop them to tuitions.

Another parent said that the traffic cop who checked me yesterday stopped me today also for document verification. When asked that my documents were verified yesterday at the same spot, the cop replied that they have to produce the documents whenever they are stopped for checking irrespective number of times they are stopped.

Most of the parents have urged the Police Commissioner to stop this practice which is like harassment.
