Mysuru: Nethra Krishnamurthy, the Mysurean who was among those critically injured after a man deliberately mowed down pedestrians with his vehicle in Melbourne on Friday, had just sent videos of her eight-month-old son Hari to her brother Vignesh before the accident.
Speaking to a news agency, Vignesh Krishnamurthy said that he was shocked to hear the news of her accident within hours of receiving a video of his nephew. “Though she suffered serious injuries to vital organs like her lungs, kidneys and head, she luckily survived, with God’s grace,” he said.
Nethra was in Mysuru for her pregnancy and left for Australia in November with Hari, explained Vignesh, a techie working in Bengaluru. She had just started working as integration developer and was returning to office after breast-feeding her son when the tragedy occurred. Nethra’s mother K Padma, a government employee, has left for Australia to take care of her grandson.
Nethra underwent multiple surgeries, including plastic surgery, on Monday. Meanwhile an online fundraising campaign initiated by a family friend , Tanvir Chowdhury, has raised over Australian $1.19 lakh (about Rs 61 lakh) for her treatment. Although the goal set was $100,000, by end of Tuesday, around $119,459 was raised from 2,237 donations.
Tanvir , in the fundraising campaign wrote: “She is presently in Intensive Care, in a critical but stable condition. Given the severity of her injuries, Nethra will remain in hospital for quite some time, and following this will have a long road to recovery, both physically and psychologically. Please help us to raise funds for this mum and her young family, during this unfathomably difficult time.”
