Mysuru: Here is good news for ‘Pourakarmikas’ who are working in Mysuru City Corporation; the government will be providing free breakfast to all the pourakarmikas (city cleaners) including those working on contract basis. If everything goes accordingly, Mysuru City Corporation will be providing free food from February.

After going through the problems of pourakarmikas, the government decided to come out with this initiative. Most of the pourakarmikas leave home early in the morning and they will be not having time to prepare or eat breakfast. Hence keeping this in mind, the government decided to provide them free breakfast worth Rs 20 every day at their respective wards. It is under tender process and corporation officials are planning to provide the same from February.
Ramachandra, the Health Officer of Mysuru City Corporation said, “More than 2200 pourakarmikas are working in Mysuru City Corporation. Most of the pourakarmikas come to work early morning, that is most of them leave home at 5am due to which they will be not having time to prepare breakfast. In few days’ time tender will be floated to whom the contract for food should be taken. We are planning to introduce free food to pourakarmikas from February. The food will be given in their respective wards which are the places where they mark their attendance. Every day at 9am they will be given food”.
N Mara, the President of Mysuru Mahanagara Palike Pourakarmikara Sangha said, “I want to thank government for thinking of introducing free food to pourakarmikas. Most of the pourakarmikas come to work without having food. The food which they provide will really motivate them to do much better work. It will also enable them to keep their health in good shape”. It can be brought to light that few weeks when Mysuru City Corporation organised free overall health check-up camp for nearly 1200 pourakarmikas at private hospital, 21 of them were found suffering from various heart related problems.”
