Mayor, MCC officials’ take- up a drive against Trade License evaders

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) began a massive drive against the commercial establishments that are running without possessing the Trade License, also on those who running without renewing the license in the city on Tuesday, January 6.

The drive, began near Javaregowda Park in Saraswathipuram 10th Main, 5th Cross in Ward 20 under MCC Zone-3, was led by Mayor R. Lingappa along with MCC officials.

The Mayor and his team, who visited Garnier Creations, a furniture shop, found that the shop had not renewed the license. The same was renewed after the shop owner gave a cheque for Rs. 3,900, which included a fine of Rs. 900, to the Mayor.

The team then visited Hobnobs Interiors, next to Garnier only to find it was running without a license.

The Mayor, who informed the owner to obtain a license after producing valid documents to the MCC, ordered the team to shut the shutters of the shop before moving further.

Meanwhile, MJ Roopa, Assistant Commissioner, MCC Zone-3, told the Mayor that the zone had a total of 457 business establishments out of which only 65 had license, 75 were yet to renew the license while 322 business establishment did not possess the license at all.

It is learnt that there are about 30,000 commercial establishments in the city, which includes hotels, lodges, Kalyana Mantaps, general stores, etc., out of which 50 percent of these establishments were running without the Trade License and out of 50 percent, 20 percent had not renewed the licenses.

Besides, Mayor Lingappa said that though enough awareness and opportunities were created and given to procure the Trade License and also to renew it, many establishments had not taken it seriously.

Lingappa also said that they are shutting the shops that did not possess the Trade License but were renewing the license on the spot after collecting the fee along with fines. He added that the drive would continue for some more days.

Speaking about Property Collection Drive, the Mayor said that the MCC was 80 percent successful and added that the drive would reach 100 percent by the March.

The team, which visited 55 commercial establishments till 12 noon, has closed 12 shops, which were running business without a trade license and renewed the licenses of 26 shops after they paid the fees along with fines.

The MCC team had collected a total of Rs. 50, 000 as renewal fees with penalty till 12 noon.

MCC Development Officer Govindappa, Assistant Engineers Rajesh, Anantha, Ramaswamy, Chethan and Babu, SDC Krishnamurthy and others accompanied the Mayor during the drive. Saraswathipuram police provided security to the team.
