Mysuru: The Panchayat Raj department has dismissed the Gram Panchayat President of Thavarekatte GP from the post for forcing a temporary civic worker to take a plunge into the clogged manhole and clean it on priority.
It may be recalled that on June 7, the temporary labourer was forced to clean the clogged manhole manually in Thavarekatte GP limits near Chamundi Hills without providing associated tools and mechanical equipment meant for the job.
When media cried foul, Assistant Commissioner D G Gurushantappa from Social Welfare Department reviewed the incident and filed a police complaint against GP President Geetha and Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Anandan. In the complaint filed at K R police station they were charged of inhuman act for attempting to get the job done manually, violating the prescribed guidelines.
Later, PDO Anandan was suspended and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RD & PR) department sought explanation from GP President Geetha on the issue. Police nabbed the absconding PDO on June 19 and subjected him to investigation.
Meanwhile, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shivashankar recommended GP President Geetha’s dismissal and accordingly informed the RD&PR department to initiate action. The RD & PR department issued orders dismissing her from the post.
