Mandya: About 75 TMCs of water has been released into the Mettur Reservoir in Tamil Nadu during June and July owing to good rains in the State in July.

There was a possibility that the State could be in trouble this year as there was no rain on schedule in June. However, due to more than usual rainfall in July, more water than the required amount has flowed into Tamil Nadu.

According to the Supreme Court decision, 35 TMC of water should be released to Tamil Nadu in June and July.

Due to above normal rainfall in July, 75 TMC feet of water has flowed into Tamil Nadu in these two months, while 50 TMC feet of water should be released in August.

Senior officials said that even if the rainfall is less in August, the extra water left in July will compensate the calculation.
