Maddur: Six laborers working near the Government Hospital had a miraculous escape as the compound wall of the hospital collapsed all of a sudden on May 2.

The laborers were engaged in routine maintenance work of the storm-water drain located behind the Government Hospital when the wall, reportedly said to be in a weak condition fell down. However since the wall did not fall on the laborers, no casualties were reported.

Angered locals criticised the city administration for the mishap. “Allowing the work when the officials knew about the weak structure of the compound wall amounts to dereliction of duty,” they alleged. The public also demanded that a new and sturdy wall be built as soon as possible.
