Youth organisations celebrate Subash Chandra Bose’s 122nd birth anniversary

Madikeri: Indian nationalist and freedom fighter Subash Chandra Bose’s 122nd birth anniversary, and the 27th anniversary of ‘Netaji Yuvaka and Yuvathi Mandali’ was celebrated at Thalathmane, in Madikeri.

Speaking on the occasion, Madikeri Taluk Panchayat member Kodapalu Ganapathi said, “The youth have adopted to modern lifestyle which has resulted in their generation being addicted to drugs and other intoxicants. This being a serious threat to the society, the youth organisations should take the initiative and responsibility of educating the youth about the dangers of substance abuse.”

“The ideology of freedom fighters like Subash Chandra Bose should be adopted by the youth. Youth organisations should engage in programmes related to social cause. This will help us develop into a progressive society,” he added.

Male Mahadeshwara School Principal Thekkade Gulabi Janardhana, Kodagu District Youth Union President P P Sukumar and Madikeri Taluk Youth Union President Naveen Derala also spoke on the occasion.

Nagesh and Naveen of Kagodlu, K K Ganesh of Thalathmane, Sachin D’Souza, B S Pavan Rai and D P Thimmaiah were honoured for their contribution in rescue operations during the natural calamities that occurred in the district last year.

The chief guests for the ceremony were B K Balakrishna, Manager of Ashok Foundation, DEO K P Kariappa of District Tuberculosis Control Office, and local Planter Katrathana Ananthalakshmi Shivaram.

‘Yuvaka Mandali’ President B B Divesh Rai welcomed the gathering. Girish Thalathmane compered and the programme was presided over by Madenadu Village Panchayat Vice President B S Rathna.

‘Yuvathi Mandali’ President B A Manjula proposed the vote of thanks.

Various sports and cultural actvities were organised after the event.
