Madikeri: The Forest Department has successfully captured the solitary wild elephant responsible for the recent fatal attack on a man in Arekadu village.
The 16-year-old tusker was located at Madara Kuppe within the village, tranquilized, and transported by truck to the Dubare camp. The capture followed a recent incident in which Devappa lost his life to a wild elephant attack while driving a tractor in the Arekadu area. Villager complaints prompted the forest department to take action, resulting in the elephant’s capture after a two-day operation.
Elephants Abhimanyu and Bheema from the Mattigodu camp, as well as Sugriva and Harsha from the Dubare camp, were part of the operation. Forest officers Koodakandi Subraya, Gopala, Poovaiah, Basha, Hanumantharaju, and other staff were present during the operation.
