Siddapur: Close on the heels of a recent death by a pachyderm, another Mahout succumbed to injuries when the same elephant trampled him to death, taking the death toll to two within a month at Dubare Elephant Camp.

Mani (22) is the deceased Mahout.

Mani had gone to feed eight-year-old elephant Karthik on Thursday evening. Karthik, known for its erratic behaviour attacked him suddenly. Mani cried out loudly for help from fellow Mahouts but elephant Karthik refused to spare him. A grievously injured Mani succumbed to injuries within minutes after the incident.

RFO Nehru and other forest officials rushed to the spot immediately.

Mortal remains of the deceased were handed over to the relatives after post mortem at Siddapur government hospital. Cloud of fear engulfs the elephant training camp where none dare to go near Karthik, the killer elephant.

It may be recalled, Annu (28), a Mahout employed at the camp had lost his life when he came under elephant Karthik’s attack.
