Madikeri: Cauvery Sena has warned of intense protest if the compensation cheques are issued to the two daughters of Narayan Achar, the Chief Priest of Talacauvery temple, who died in a landslide recently.
It may be recalled tht a massive landslide in Brahmagiri on August 5 here had left five people including Achar, his wife Shantha and three other family members missing.
Days after the landslide and with persistent search operation Narayan Achar, his brother Ananda Thirtha and one more person were found dead.
The compensation amount of Rs five lakh (of Narayan Achar) was released in two cheques of Rs 2.5 lakhs each to the two daughters of Narayan Achar- Namita Achar and Sharada Achar, both living abroad.
However, when the cheques were issued, the two could not cash it as it was then learnt that the two had embraced Christianity and Islam respectively and had accordingly changed their names to Namita Nazrath and Sharon Fernandes. They both are not the citizens of India, claimed the Sena.
Citing this as the reason, Sene Leader Ravi Chengappa has said that the cheques shall not be issued to the two daughters at any cost as they had disowned the religion that they were born in.
“As per the law, the compensation can be given to individuals according to the name mentioned in the FIR. The two -Namita Achar and Sharada Achar do not exist anymore. Now we have learnt that there are efforts being made to change the name and make way for the two to receive the cheques. If this happens, then we will stage a protest,” said Chengappa adding that DC Annis Kanmani Joy is going out of her way to help the two get the compensation amount.
He further said that the huge epanse of land that Narayan Achar claimed to own too is disputed. The daughters having lodged an FIR at Bhagamandala, using their former names has led to this episode, said many.
