Madikeri: An advocate has registered a case against Kannada actress and former MP from Mandya Ramya in a Somwarpet court on Monday, August 22.
Kodagu Praja Ranga president and advocate, Katnamane Vittal Gowda has registered a civil case against Ramya’s statement about Pakistan. The case was registered under IPC sections 124 (A), 344 and 511. Her statement resulted in provoking people to protest and affected harmony in the society, alleged the complainant in his appeal. Judge Shyam Prakash received the complaint and posted for hearing to August 27.
Ramya, after attending a SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference in Pakistan, made comments in support of Pakistan. That led to a huge controversy. People in Karnataka, miffed with her comments staged protests.
Ramya had reportedly spoken in favour of Pakistan and its people, something that irked many in Karnataka including her fellow actors and politicians. She was also trolled for her comments where he apparently stated that, “Pakistan is not hell. People there are just like us. They treated us very well.”
Ramya has since clarified that she made the comments in the spirit of promoting peace and welfare between India and Pakistan.
Yuva Bharat, a pro-BJP organisation in Mysuru have protested against Ramya’s comments and launched a postcard campaign urging Ramya to “shift to Pakistan”.
A star in sandalwood, Ramya had entered politics in the year 2011. As a Congress candidate, she became a MP from Mandya constituency by winning the by-election in 2013. Ramya was defeated by C. S. Puttaraju by a margin of 5500 votes from Mandya in the General Elections in 2014.
