Kushalnagar: A lady was trampled to death by an elephant at Hosakote in Kushalnagar on Monday morning.

The deceased is Sarojamma (50). Sorajamma had ventured out of her house to fetch some drinking water when a rogue elephant that strayed out of the reserve forest area attacked her and left her grievously injured.

Though she was rushed to district hospital in Madikeri, she breathed her last in the hospital. Zilla Panchayat member Latheef, local elected representatives, forest department officials rushed to the spot and also visited the hospital.

The forest department has announced a compensation of Rs two lakh for the family members of the deceased as of now, while another installment of Rs three lakh would released soon.

The deceased has left behind a daughter and a son.
