Chettalli : A pumpkin weighing 24 kg surprised everyone including the grower at Irale Valamudi village near Chettalli.

Labourers from Assam working at Kavan Cariappa’s estate had brought in few vegetable seeds including those of pumpkin on their return. Ballarandavani Thimmaiah took few seeds and planted them in his backyard. Within a short span, flowers were noticed on the creepers which later grew to pumpkins. Around 30 pumpkins grew and the grower shared most of them with friends and neighbours and left 3 pumpkins unplucked.

To his surprise, one pumpkin grew in size beyond everyone’s expectations and weighed 24 kg in total. This time Kavan Cariappa shared the King size pumpkin weighing almost quarter quintal with neighbours who probably ended making tasty saucy vegetable dish to go with rice rotis!
