Madikeri: A pickup van turned turtle near Virajpet Kodava Samaja after the driver lost control over the vehicle injuring 21 workers on board. As many as four of the injured persons are said to be critical.

The incident took place around 5.55 pm on March 13.

It is gathered that the driver of the vehicle was partying since afternoon and was in an inebriated state during the time of the accident. The laborers were mostly of Assam origin and were returning home after working in a nearby field.

The injured have been admitted to Madikeri general hospital, the critically injured have been rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. SDPI, Welfare party of India and also local Congress workers have demanded compensation for the injured.

A case has been registered against the vehicle driver Bopanna at Virajpet police station.
