Officials seize cash and liquor worth lakhs of rupees ahead of LS polls

Madikeri: As much Rs 6.31 Lakh cash and liquor worth of Rs 28 lakh have been seized in two different locations in Kodagu district.

The Excise Department successfully conducted a raid following a tip-off and seized the liquor. The liquor from Maharashtra was being smuggled from Mysuru to Wayanad, Kerala in a lorry (MH 13 CU 4292). The department stopped the vehicle near Perumbadi in Kodagu and detained two accused who were in the vehicle.

In another incident, Rs 6.31 Lakh with no documentation, has been seized from a jeep with Kerala registration (KL 14 T 4221). The jeep was stopped in Koppa electoral check post for a routine check and the cash was discovered. Jeevan and Santosh of Kerala were transporting the cash. Officials have detained the accused and are interrogating them. The flying squad has taken the cash into its custody. Sub Divisional Officer Javare Gowda reached the spot and assessed the situation.
