Madikeri Dasara this year may cost Rs 1.51 cr: Dasara Committee

Madikeri: The hilly town of Madikeri is gearing up to host ‘Dasara’ festival and this year the budget allocation for the festival is Rs 1.51 crore, said Dasara Organising committee.
Madikeri Dasara, which takes place during the night attracts over two lakh people to the hill town every year. During the festival ten larger than life tableaux are taken out in procession by various teams.

The details of the estimated expenditure were revealed by Committee members. Committee Treasurer Anita Pooviah said that last year Rs 75.36 lakhs was spent and Rs 2.57 lakhs was saved. The committee decided to seek more allocation from the chief minister towards dasara expenditure this year.

Addressing the committee, President Mahesh Jain said, last year the celebrations were held on grand scale and trend should continue this year. Honorary president of the Committee MB Devaiah said that the by-laws have to be placed on the table which will help in the continuation of the committee. Many others expressed their views during the committee meeting.

In the end, the committee members offered prayers at Sri Rama Mandir for the success of this year’s celebration without impediments.
