Madikeri: The entire district of Kodagu wore a deserted look on Thursday following a call for bandh given by saffron outfits.
Commercial and other establishments voluntarily kept the shutters down as organisations like Hindu Jagran Vedike and others planned the bandh demanding justice for DySP M K Ganapthi by initiating CBI probe in to his death case.
Members of various saffron organisations and BJP members assembled at General Thimmaiah circle and condemned the stand of the government, which was vehemently trying to shield Minister K J George whose name was mentioned by Ganapathi in his dying declaration.
Same kind of support was seen in Kushalnagar as well, where protesters staged ‘rastha roko’ and even burnt tyres at Field Marshal Karyappa Circle.
Kodava Sangha and Ex-Servicemen’s organisations took to street in Virajpete demanding justice for Ganapathi.
No untoward incidents were reported till noon. Security has been beefed up across the state and men in Khaki are seen deputed on each and every street.
A total of 1200 policemen, 150 officers, 25 KSRP platoons, 3 patrolling vehicles have been pressed into action. Adequate number of photographers and videographers too have been deputed to cover the situation.
DySP Ganapathi ended life in a hotel room last week after making a statement on local channel that Minister K J George, higher officers AM Prasad and Pranob Mohanthy were responsible for his death. Soon after his death, the government resorted to hushing up the case stating that Ganapathi was depressed and marital discord compelled him to end life.
