Madikeri: A significant tragedy unfolded when a building section collapsed in the Stewart Hill layout, resulting in the unfortunate loss of three laborers. The victims, identified as Basappa, Ningappa, and Anand, were residents of Chikkodi taluk in the Belagavi district
This incident occurred during excavation work for a private retaining wall construction, leading to the collapse of a wall that trapped four laborers beneath the debris. Miraculously, one of them, Raju, managed to escape with the assistance of his fellow workers. Regrettably, the remaining three individuals remained trapped under the mud, ultimately leading to their untimely demise. This tragic event transpired while a total of nine laborers were involved in the construction work.
Following the incident, prompt responses from the police and fire department were witnessed as they quickly arrived at the scene to recover the bodies and transfer them to the district hospital. Throughout the operation, the presence of notable figures such as Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda, District Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan, Municipal Council President Anitha Poovaiah, as well as other officials and members, was noted at the location.
