Kodagu: A youth, who was posing as a civil servant to enjoy special treatment, was nabbed by Virajpete rural police.
The accused is Sowmya Ranjan Mishra from Odisha.
It is said that on March 28, Mishra had called up Mysuru Municipal Commissioner and introduced himself as Mumbai Revenue Department Regional Commissioner and requested for a vehicle to reach Virajpete.
With the government vehicle he arrived at Virajpete and was staying at the Virajpete Ambatti Green Resort and called up Virajpete DySP Nagappa, Virajpete Circle Inspector Kumar Aradhya and rural police Sub Inspector Basavaraju to arrange for a gunman who could take him around Virajpete.
However, his game ended when he made a call to Kodagu SP Rajendra Prasad and asked for some more facilities. The SP, who grew suspicious, instantly informed DySP Nagappa to verify details of the caller.
On interrogating him, it was found that Mishra, an M.Sc degree holder, was working as a software developer for Employee Provident Fund office. He had lost his job after his contract was over. However, he had realised that bureaucrats enjoy a certain power and he decided to cheat people by introducing himself as a civil servant so that he too could enjoy the benefits.
