Somwarpet: A second-division clerk of the excise department who was absconding after cheating a liquor selling club with a promise of license for liquor sale and its renewal, fell into police net here in Mysuru on Saturday, July 2.

Jeevan Poovaiah had received Rs 2.30 lacs promising Belur club of providing license and also filled a challan with an excise department seal but did not deposit the cash. Hence, a complaint was registered by the club president D Ananda Basappa at Somwarpet police station.

He was taken into custody in Mysuru. The police interrogated him and conducted spot enquiry at the excise department office. The seal and documents were seized by the police and Poovaiah was produced in the court.
