Madikeri: Codava National Council (CNC) has suspected that Maoists and pro-ISIS activities are going on in the landscapes of Kodagu district and has expressed fear that Kodagu will be made in to a ‘Red Corridor or Black Corridor’ by the invisible hands that have been working to plant flags of Maoists and the ISIS.
Speaking about the same, CNC President N U Nachappa said that the CNC has already brought the matter to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajith Doval and Karnataka Governor Vaju Bhai Vala.
The CNC has appraised that despite Kodagu district having several tribes living under very difficult circumstances, there have been instances in the past where they have shown their patriotism by refusing to be a part of any anti-national movement.
A classic example of nationalism among the Kodavas in general and Kodava tribal communities in particular is the instance when the Kodava joined hands with the security agencies and fought out efforts of naxals under leadership of a lady named Ajitha who wanted to spread tentacles of Maoism in Kodagu in 1969. Several episodes thereafter too have shown that Kodavas were staunch patriots.
However, the letter of the CNC speaks of vehement efforts being made to bring the peaceful district under the spell of Maoist movement.
Kodagu is a hilly district with large expanses of difficult to access terrains, which would provide safe havens for the anti-national elements. Playing upon this, there are hands that have been striving pave way for ‘red corridor’ and also facilitate entry old dreaded terror outfit like ISIS.
“Even when the BJP was in rule in Karnataka, small Kodava coffee growers were issued threats by the naxals, who remain away from big growers and companies functioning in the area,” said Nachappa adding that even when naxal movements were on in neighbouring districts like Chikkamagaluru, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, the CNC took up the issue and kept warning the people and security agencies that Kodagu district was under threat as well.
Keeping all these issues in mind, the central and the state governments must plunge into action to save Kodagu from such forces, said the letter.
