‘Law Commission Needs Suggestions from Legal Fraternity for Framing Laws’

Mysore: “The suggestions of legal fraternity play a vital role in framing laws by the Law Commission,” observed State Law Commission Chairman Justice SR Nayak.

He was speaking at a programme organized by the Mysore Bar Association at the city Law Courts premises on Saturday October 11.

Noting that the State Law Commission, formed in 2009, has the authority to shed light on laws framed by the State Government, Justice Nayak said that the Law Commission was open to suggestions from the legal fraternity, which has a close connect with the society.

Pointing out that there are 1,488 laws coming under the Law Commission, he said that the laws were framed in accordance with the times.

Noting that some of these laws seemed to be irrelevant now, while there were loopholes in some others, Justice Nayak stressed on the need for making amendments to the laws in keeping with the times. The Law Commission since its inception has submitted 33 reports to the State Government on amending certain laws that are in place in the State, he said and added that most of the amendments were concerned with criminal laws.

Principal District & Sessions Court Judge KS Mudgal, who also spoke on the occasion, stressed on the need for amending laws in keeping with the changing times.

The Commission’s Member Secretary R Chandrasekhar, Bar Association President BR Chandramouli, Vice-President GP Chandrashekar, Secretary Srikrishna and others were present.
