Mysuru: Even as Heritage Department chalked out plans to renovate and breathe life into Lansdowne building, it seems that Mysuru City Corporation has no interest in saving the building. After Devaraj Market it is now Lansdowne building’s turn to be pulled down.
It was after a team of experts who recommended pulling down of the building because it is in deplorable state that the MCC has decided to go ahead with the plan to raze the building, which is one of the oldest commercial structure from the bygone British era.
The Lansdowne Building went out of use since four years after a part of its ceiling caved in leading to death of four people. During the council meeting on Tuesday, the council members decided to take final decision only after going through Detailed Project Report of the proposed project. The members almost agreed for demolition of Lansdowne building and for its reconstruction retaining the original heritage structure elevation. Still the council members called upon Mayor Ravi Kumar and Commissioner Jagadeesh to come out with proper plan by consulting architects and others concerned. The members also advised the Mayor to provide adequate parking facilities in the proposed plan.
Kannada Soudha at JP Nagar sports complex
When former mayor Lingappa raised exception to the plan that Kannada Soudha was coming up at place meant for park at JP Complex, many members came down heavily up on the Mayor and the Commission for violating the norm. But later after long debate the Commissioner clarified that it is not being built on land meant for park, but it is being built on land that has provision to construct sports or cultural infrastructure.
Corporators flay delay in construction of swimming pool
Members Prashanth Gowda and Jagadish staged a stir for inordinate delay in construction of three swimming pools in the city. When Mayor Ravi Kumar did not have an answer, Prashanth Gowda walked into the well of the house and staged a stir. Later he was joined by Jagadish and other Congress corporators.
However, Superintendent Engineer Suresh Babu explained that the tender process for three swimming pools have been floated but no one came forward to bid for the work in NR Constituency. He said that the MCC was contemplating BOOT system for rest of the two pools.
