Kushalnagar : With summer at its peak, the water level in the Harangi reservoir near here is fast dipping giving room for a great amount of concern. Though various parts of Kodagu are experiencing showers, the water in various rivers are not reaching the reservoir. Still people here are hoping that things would improve if the region experiences good rainfall for a few more days.

If the water in the reservoir was 1,78,467 TMC during the same period last year, this year it has dipped to 1,16,197 TMC.
Office bearers of the Rameshwar Water Users Association strongly feel that there would have been more water this season had the government issued instructions to collect more rain water during the previous monsoon. The Association has also urged for repair of several sub-canals so that water through these canals can reach the farmers’ fields.
On the other hand, Junior Assistant Engineer of Harangi Irrigation Department has said that there are indications of early onset of monsoons and that all sub-canals in the region have been repaired.
