Kushalnagar: A woman holding a Trishul (trident) and narrating a dream ! Isn’t that an ideal setting for a mythological play? Not really! Here is a Muslim woman protesting holding a Trishul demanding the local administration to unearth an idol of Hindu deity to construct a temple.

The lone agitator is none other than Mubeen Taj, foundress of Brilliant Bloom School in the town. “Hindu deity Mahakali appeared in my dreams and wants me to construct a temple for her using the hidden idol beneath the ground”, she contends.

During Tippu’s regime, many temples were razed down, says Mubben Taj and added, “Purohits (priests) of those times hid the 600-year-old idol of deity Mahakali under the ground”, justifying her action to protest.

After walking through the thoroughfares in the town, she finally stood rock solid in front of Town Municipal Council (TMC) office demanding permission from the local administration to construct a temple to her dream deity Mahakali.

Deputy Tahsildar Nanda Kumar accompanied by other revenue officials met her and tried to convince her to withdraw her protest. Some even requested her not to disturb peace in the area but Mubeen Taj retaliated in anger taking one and all by surprise. Later police took her into their custody for a while.

Reacting on the incident, Chief Officer Shridhar said, a petition was received in 2001 regarding the presence of an idol. When the ward member and the land owner Sheshadri under whose land the idol is presumably hidden was approached seeking nod for excavation, he refused to oblige, Shridhar added.

The issue has been brought to the notice of Tahsildar as it comes under the State Archaeological department. Senior officials in the district administration will be alerted on the protest, he added.

Meanwhile, a resolute Mubeen Taj has decided to continue the protest until her demand is met.
