Mysuru: The yearly turnover of the IT industry is $118 billion and Karnataka is the leader in IT export with the total export of Rs 80,000 crore coming from Bengaluru, said Sid Mookerji, Global, CEO and Co-founder SPI.

Speaking during an interactive session on ‘IT industries and infrastructure in Mysuru- A Cohesive Move’ at SDM IMD auditorium here on Friday he said, “The IT industry is the largest private sector employer employing 3.1 million people across the country. Every year, more than 45,000 students graduate from Bengaluru and nearly 15,000 from Mysuru. Due to the trivial number of IT industries in Mysuru, the talent from Mysuru is being exported to other cities including Bengaluru. If the government comes out with the right kind of environment, infrastructure including regular air connectivity from Mysuru and Bengaluru and creating employability kind of program, definitely there is a scope for IT growth in Mysuru. The State government should also show encouragement by providing incentives IT companies in Mysuru. Most of the growth from Mysuru is coming from the existing companies as there are no new companies coming to Mysuru. At an average Mysuru contributes Rs 6000 crore in IT exports every year”.
Bhaskar Kalale, Convenor IT panel, CII said, “The amount of traffic in Mysuru though increasing, is not anywhere close to Bengaluru. For better IT growth in Mysuru, collaboration of industry and academy and collaboration between industry and public administration is the need of the hour. Collaboration of public administration and industry will go a long way in building brand Mysuru. Apart from this, on the lines of IT Park in Bengaluru, an IT dedicated park should come up in Mysuru where we can attract large number of MNC Companies and promote Mysuru. To promote IT in Mysuru, road shows in Bengaluru should also be conducted”.
N Muthukumar, Chairman, CII Mysuru said, “The connectivity is the only hindrance for the lack of IT growth in Mysuru. Apart from that, we have all resources including human resources. To just complete the four-lane Mysuru-Nanjangud 20km road, they took three years. So the proposed six-lane Mysuru- Bengaluru road may take more amount of time. The only connectivity which will be reality is the double- line electric train between Mysuru and Bengaluru, according to Divisional Railway Manager in Mysuru by the end of this year. Mysuru will have a double line electric train, which will enable one to reach Bengaluru in two hours. He also called upon the youngsters to take up the challenge of start-ups instead of depending on the government for everything.
There are more than 2000 IT companies where more than 5000 are working as IT professionals in various companies. IT professionals from different IT industries and students took part in the interactive session. Gayathri, Deputy Director, SDM IMD was also present.
The event was organized by CII-Yi in association with SDM IMD.
